La Vida a Palos is based on a base text by Pedro Atienza, which serves as the perfect vehicle for the return to the stage of acclaimed actor Imanol Arias, following 24 years’ absence. It tells the story of a man who in his final days is reunited with the son he has not seen since he was a child. Together, they embark on a journey into the past in order to try to reach a reconciliation by unravelling the apparent meaninglessness of his life, which has been marked by fiery, stormy, ambiguous loves that emerged from the influence of flamenco.
Complementing the steps along the metaphorical journey, a singer, dancer and musician perform martinetes, soleares, colombianas, fandangos, nanas and tarantos – the most traditional varieties of flamenco singing, known as los palos del flamenco.
